Patroness Membership

what is a patroness membeR?

A Patroness member is a woman/non-binary individual that has dedicated their lives to music, but did not get a chance to join Sigma Alpha Iota during college. Some weren't a music major at the time, others may not have had an SAI chapter to join during their studies. We welcome new members from all different walks of life to Patroness membership with Sigma Alpha Iota. Our Patroness members include teachers, music lovers, and musicians of all kinds.

Patroness Since 2013

I came into SAI formally as a Friend of the Arts.  That was in May 1995.  My sister Linda had been a member since her college days, since I think 1977.  I had sung with her and Elena for Philadelphia Alumnae service projects for years and performed in the Philadelphia Revels with them too.  I attended nearly every meeting and service project.  I set up numerous service projects as Committee Chair.  I attended 4 conventions before I agreed to become a Patroness in 2013.  I have enjoyed full voting privileges and held the office of Editor for 4 years which I totally enjoyed.  Joining as a patroness is great when the college SAI experience was not available.  We had a chapter on my campus and I hung out with the SAIs, but they told me I would have to be a music major or minor to join.  So, around 20 years later, I became a Friend of the Arts, and 18 years later became a patroness.  I love the music, the sisterhood, and the chance to bring music to others.  The national conventions are really great too!

Patroness Since 2023

SAI is a sisterhood of connection. As someone who's always been behind the scenes in music and dramatic productions and especially in college, I was looking for those musically and artistically inclined adults post-graduation. SAI is a community of ages, experiences, and all walks of musicale life who in just a few short months have already strengthened and built friendships more than I'd ever dreamed of. Everyone is recognized for what they bring to the table, from beautiful voices and instruments to production knowledge (like me) to years of wisdom - and there's no separation between collegiate, alumnae, and patronesses - except that I missed out on the sisterhood during college. Becoming a patroness has been one of the highlights of my year, and I'm so excited for what's to come as a Sister.
